The Director’s Welcome Address
With great pleasure I welcome you to Institute for Entrepreneurship and Development Studies (IFEDS). The Institute, formerly Centre for Industrial Research and Development Studies (CIRD), has been in the forefront of entrepreneurship and small business development as far back as 1968 when it was established as a Unit within the Department of Economics by the renowned economist, late Professor Sam Aluko. With various assistances received from both Federal and State Governments of Nigeria, World Bank, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Carnegie Corporation of New York, the capacities of this Institute have been strengthened to offer entrepreneurship and development studies.
The Institute offers B.Sc. degree in Entrepreneurship and Industrial Extension which is designed to develop students to be one or combination of the following:
- Entrepreneurial employee (Intrapreneur) who is endowed with knowledge and skill for coming up with novel ways of making an organisation (private or public) more profitable, efficient and effective.
- Entrepreneurship practitioner who is endowed with knowledge and skill for setting up and managing entrepreneurial enterprise, which may be for profit or not-for-profit (social entrepreneur).
- Entrepreneurship trainer and consultant who is endowed with knowledge and skill needed to design, organise and deliver training programme on entrepreneurship, as well as providing counselling, for would-be and existing business owners.
- Entrepreneurship researcher who is endowed with the knowledge and skill to conduct cutting-edge researches in certain areas of entrepreneurship.
